All Endings — Layered Like an Onion

Blue Prince does not have a fixed number of endings. It has layers — each one a credits roll or cutscene that could be the player's stopping point. The first is reaching Room 46. The second is claiming the Crown in the Throne Room. The third walks you through the Tunnel to an alternate Room 46 via the Atelier. There's a fourth ending where Simon is presented with three boxes echoing the Parlor's blue/white/black mechanic. And the community is still finding deeper layers. This page is an honest accounting of what's confirmed and what's still being mapped.

Quick reference: Confirmed layers (in rough order):
  1. Room 46 — first credits, ~15-20 hours, Inheritance Trophy
  2. Throne Room / Crown of Fenn Aries — narrated cutscene + epilogue
  3. Alternate Room 46 via Atelier / Tunnel — second visit, redecorated crown
  4. The three-boxes ending — Parlor-themed final choice (deepest known)
  5. Deeper still… — community is still mapping

Why "Onion of Endings" Matters

Tonda Ros, the designer, has talked about Blue Prince as a game with deliberate "offramps" — moments where a player who wants to stop can stop with a real sense of closure. Different players will hit different walls. The game accommodates that by making each layer feel complete on its own, even though the next layer exists.

Practically: if you reach Room 46 and feel done, you are done. The credits really do roll. But the game has more — quite a lot more — for players who want to keep digging.

Ending 1 — Room 46

Trigger: Walk through the Antechamber's north door for the first time.

What happens: A cutscene plays. The Red Prince poem (written by your mother) gets a second stanza narrated over imagery of the blue door and the eight locked doors you've passed. The credits roll. The day ends. Your save now has the Inheritance Trophy.

How long it takes: Most players reach Room 46 between 15 and 25 hours. Speedrun-capable players can do it in under an hour on a single run with prior knowledge.

What it leaves open: Most of the game. The eight locked doors shown in the cutscene reference Sanctum doors that haven't been opened yet. The poem's continuation hints at a larger story.

Ending 2 — Throne Room & the Crown of Fenn Aries

Trigger: Reach the Throne Room post-Room-46 and claim the Crown.

What you need: Three items found in late-game rooms. The Throne Room itself sits in the post-Room-46 expanded mansion. The Crown is the Crown of Fenn Aries — a real cultural artifact in the game's worldbuilding, tied to the Safehouse plans found in the Reservoir.

What happens: A fully narrated cutscene plays. The epilogue continues — you walk through the Tunnel and emerge into an alternate version of Room 46 via the Atelier. The crown sitting in that alternate Room 46 has been redecorated with "freshly cut sapphires" — a callback to plans you found in the Safehouse.

Lore reveal: Your mother, after her escapades, left the continent years ago. You become the Blue Prince in her stead. This is the ending most players name when asked about "the true ending."

Ending 3 — Alternate Room 46 via Atelier (Epilogue)

Not a separate ending so much as the continuation of the Throne Room cutscene. You leave the Throne Room, walk through the Tunnel, and enter Room 46 from the Atelier side — a second version of the room from a different angle. This is where the "second visit" lore reveals fully.

Some community members count this separately because it has its own beat and visual; others fold it into Ending 2. Either way, it's a confirmed late-game moment.

Ending 4 — The Three-Boxes Ending

Status: Deepest known ending. Discovered by the community after extensive post-Throne-Room exploration.

What happens: After dispelling the mysteries of Mt. Holly, his own lineage, and the world itself, Simon is presented with three boxes — explicitly echoing the Parlor's blue/white/black puzzle. The choice plays into the game's recursion theme: the Parlor is a logic puzzle about which box holds the prize; the ending asks you to make a final, weighted choice with the same shape.

The community treats this as the current ceiling, but the consensus is that more may exist.

Are There More Endings?

Probably. Community comments from active players: "I don't think anyone's found a proper true ending yet, but I also don't think the game is fully solved."

The game uses a deliberate spiral motif. An in-game document depicts a jagged spiral with the scrawled question: "Does it never end?" The designer has been intentionally vague about whether there is a final final ending or whether the spiral is the point.

Endings vs Trophies

It's worth separating "endings" (cutscenes / credits) from "trophies" (the 16 in-game achievements). The Inheritance Trophy maps to Ending 1, but most trophies are not tied to specific endings — they reward isolated milestones (40 Parlor solves, 40 Billiard solves, every room drafted, etc.). See All Trophies.

Endings FAQ

Did the game previously have only 3 endings? Earlier fan guides circulated a "3 endings" framing (Standard, Forgotten Wing, True). That breakdown does not match the released game. The structure is layered (1 → 2 → 3 → 4 …), not a branch of three terminal paths.
Can I miss an ending if I do things in the wrong order? No. Endings layer additively. Reaching Room 46 unlocks the path to the Throne Room. The Throne Room unlocks deeper content. You can keep playing on the same save indefinitely.
Do endings affect each other? Story-wise, yes — the lore explicitly builds. Mechanically, no — earlier endings don't lock you out of later ones.
Is there a Forgotten Wing ending? Not in the form earlier fan guides described. There are post-Room-46 areas with their own narrative beats, but no "Forgotten Wing as ending #2" — that was fan myth.
