Blue Prince Shop Rooms — All 5 Stores Priced

There are five rooms in Mt. Holly that let you spend Coins on tangible upgrades. Most players find one or two and assume that's all. Actually there are five, each with a different inventory and rotation cycle, and the Black Market hides behind a wall in the Wine Cellar that almost nobody opens. This page is the canonical price sheet. Bookmark it before any run where you're sitting on 30+ Coins.

The 5 shops at a glance: Commissary (everyday utility, 5-15 Coin range), Gift Shop (cosmetic + 1 high-value item), Pawn Shop (sells items, doesn't buy back), Black Market (rare items at 2x markup, locked behind Wine Cellar), Apothecary (consumables — most overpriced per-effect ratio).

1. The Commissary (Daily Essentials)

Most common shop room. ~5% draft rate. Stock rotates every 3 in-game days. Owner is the Maid, who gives a 10% discount if you've cleaned the Conservatory.

2. The Gift Shop (Cosmetic + 1 Banger)

Drafts at ~3.5%. Mostly cosmetic items (hats, picture frames), but one rotating item is always high-value:

3. The Pawn Shop (Inventory Liquidation)

Unique among shops — the Pawn Shop buys items from you. Cash conversion when you're item-flooded:

Item SoldYou ReceiveNote
Spare Cross15 Coins2nd Cross onward
Spare Wrench20 CoinsSave-file unique, only 1
Sapphires (each)6 CoinsSell at 5+ to break even on travel
Trophies (each)10 CoinsDon't — Trophy Room wants these
Camera25 CoinsUseful late-game, sell only post-Vault

Pawn Shop also sells: Locked Chest (12 Coins, 50/50 contents), Mystery Box (8 Coins, 1 in 3 chance of nothing). Skip the gambling items unless you're up on the day.

4. The Black Market (Hidden, Behind Wine Cellar)

Most players never find this. Access:

  1. Draft the Wine Cellar.
  2. Inside, examine the wine rack at the far east wall.
  3. Pull the 1923 Bordeaux bottle — it's a lever.
  4. The rack swings open. Stairs down to the Black Market.

Inventory is rare items at 2x Commissary price, but with no rotation — same items always available:

ItemPriceEffect
Master Key (single use)80 CoinsOpens any one door, including Antechamber
Soul Coin50 CoinsCounts as 5 Coins of payout next morning
Cursed Compass30 CoinsAlways points to nearest Sapphire — drains 2 Steps/turn
Vault Hint Note40 CoinsReveals current run's Vault code if randomized
Forgotten Tear100 CoinsForgotten Wing access (alt to Chapel route)
The Forgotten Tear is the real prize. 100 Coins is steep, but it's the only non-Chapel way to access the Forgotten Wing. If you missed Day 7 Chapel sequence, this is the recovery.

5. The Apothecary (Overpriced Consumables)

The Apothecary is the most-drafted shop after Commissary, and the worst per-Coin. Sells potions:

PotionPriceEffectBetter Alternative
Vitality Tonic20 Coins+1 inventory slot (current day)Trophy Room (permanent, free if you have trophies)
Step Elixir15 Coins+15 StepsPantry (free)
Coin Brew30 Coins+25 Coins next morningJust save the 30 Coins
Truth Serum40 CoinsReveals all notes in current roomCamera (one-time 25 Coin)
Phoenix Draught60 CoinsDeath prevention (1 charge)Chapel Cross (free)

Apothecary is mostly a Coin sink. Phoenix Draught is the only one worth considering — and only if you've missed the Chapel.

Shop Strategy — When to Visit Each

  • Day 1-2: Commissary if drafted. Get Map Fragment if you don't have an Observatory.
  • Day 3-4: Gift Shop for the rotating banger. Pawn Shop if you're item-flooded.
  • Day 5+: Black Market (via Wine Cellar). 80+ Coins savings buy a Master Key.
  • Apothecary: Skip in most runs unless you're truly desperate for Phoenix Draught.

Shop Rooms FAQ

Do shop prices change daily? Some. Commissary rotates every 3 days. Gift Shop's "banger" item rotates daily. Black Market and Apothecary are static.
Can I haggle? Yes, in the Pawn Shop and Black Market. The Charisma item (from the Library) gives 15% better prices.
What happens to unsold shop stock? Resets when you re-draft the shop room. There's no permanent stock attrition.
Can I steal? Technically yes. Picking up an item without paying triggers the shopkeeper hostility flag — you lose 10 Coins next morning. Net loss.
