Blue Prince Pump Room — Pressure Gauge & Mine Layer 3

The Pump Room is the puzzle that gates the entire endgame. Without solving it, you cannot access Mine Layer 3, which holds the Sapphire Vein and the only known route to the Vault from the eastern shaft. Most players hit the Pump Room on Day 4 or 5, fiddle with the gauges, hear hissing, and walk away thinking it's broken. It's not — there's a strict lever order, then a calibration window, then exact PSI targets.

Solution overview: Pull levers in order Left → Right → Middle. Then set gauges 1, 2, 3 to 40 PSI / 60 PSI / 80 PSI within the 30-second calibration window. Gauge wheel = quarter-turn = 2.86 PSI. Door to Mine Layer 3 unlocks automatically when all three targets are met.

Step 1: Lever Order (L → R → M)

Above each gauge is a brass primer lever. They must be pulled in Left → Right → Middle order. Any other order vents the system and you have to wait 30 seconds before re-priming.

  1. Left lever (1st): Builds initial pressure to ~15 PSI baseline. Audible "thunk" when committed.
  2. Right lever (2nd): Locks the chamber. Closes the relief valve. A second thunk, slightly higher pitch.
  3. Middle lever (3rd): Initiates the 30-second calibration window. A bell rings. Now the gauges accept input.
Why this order: The Pump Room is fed by the manor's main line (left), bleeds into the Mine line (right), and the middle lever opens the gauge bank. Pulling middle first vents to the Mine before the chamber is sealed.

Step 2: Setting the Three Gauges

You have 30 seconds from the bell ring. Each gauge has a brass wheel below it. Quarter-turn = +2.86 PSI:

  • Gauge 1 → 40 PSI: 14 quarter-turns clockwise from zero. Needle should point upper-right (about 1 o'clock).
  • Gauge 2 → 60 PSI: 21 quarter-turns. Needle horizontal right (3 o'clock).
  • Gauge 3 → 80 PSI: 28 quarter-turns. Needle lower-right (4-5 o'clock).

If you over-shoot, turn counter-clockwise to back off. But each direction-change costs 2 seconds of the window. Plan to hit your target on the first sweep.

The 30-Second Window

The calibration window is generous if you know the targets. A typical pace:

  1. 0-8s: Gauge 1 (14 turns × ~0.4s each = 5.6 seconds).
  2. 8-18s: Gauge 2 (21 turns).
  3. 18-30s: Gauge 3 (28 turns).

If you finish all three with the gauges reading 40/60/80, the bell rings a second time and the Mine Layer 3 door unlocks. If the window expires before all three are set, the system vents and you restart from Step 1.

Mine Layer 3 Access

The reward is access to the deepest mine layer:

  • Sapphire Vein — 5-7 Sapphires per visit, used for the Crown puzzle and the Aquarius rare-bloom.
  • Vault East Route — alternative path to the Vault that skips the Library code-finding sequence.
  • Forgotten Wing connection — Mine Layer 3 has a sealed door that opens after the Chapel Day 7 sequence.
  • Antechamber shortcut — bypasses the Coat Check entrance, halving your prep time.

This is the single largest unlock in the mid-game.

Common Mistakes

  • Pulling middle lever first. Most common mistake. The middle lever is centered and visually most prominent. Always start with Left.
  • Over-shooting Gauge 3. 80 PSI is the cap. 85+ bursts the pipe. The wheel has no resistance increase as you approach the cap, so it's easy to over-turn.
  • Counting quarter-turns wrong. Each "click" is one quarter-turn. Listen for the click — visually they're hard to count above 10.
  • Leaving mid-window. If you walk out of the Pump Room during the calibration window, it vents and you lose your progress. Stay in the room.

Using the Wrench Item

If you carry the Wrench (from the Aquarius room), you can open the Pump Room door without paying a Key. The Wrench then has one charge remaining for another utility door. Wrench → Pump Room → Boiler Room → spent is the standard utility-door route.

Pump Room FAQ

Does the gauge reading persist across days? Yes. Once 40/60/80 is correctly set, the gauges stay calibrated for that save file. You don't have to re-solve the puzzle on subsequent runs.
What if I over-pressurize and burst a pipe? Pump Room locks for 2 in-game days. The day's Coin payout is voided. Avoid 85+ PSI on Gauge 3.
Is this needed for Room 46? Not directly. Room 46 has its own path. But Mine Layer 3 → Vault East Route is the faster path to the Vault, which is required for the True Ending.
Can two players solve together? No multiplayer. But on Steam Family Sharing, two saves on the same machine each need to solve the Pump Room separately.
