Updated May 25, 2026 · 9 min read · Includes the 11-pipe optimal layout
The Aquarius room looks intimidating because the floor is a 5×5 grid of empty pipe sockets and the box beside it contains a chaotic pile of pipe segments. The puzzle is actually a one-source, three-sink flow puzzle that's been disguised by clutter. Once you see the structure, it solves in two minutes — and the 11-pipe optimal layout rewards the Wrench item, which removes the Key cost on every locked utility door in the mansion.
Solution overview: Source on south wall (center). Three sinks: Garden (east), Bath (north), Reservoir (west). Route: south flange → T-junction → east to Garden + north to Bath → from Bath west to Reservoir. Uses 4 straights, 5 elbows, 1 Tee, 1 cross. 11 segments total; 1 left in the box.
The 5×5 Pipe Grid
Source (bottom) flows up to the T-junction, then branches east (Garden), west (Reservoir), and north (Bath).
The Box Inventory
Beside the grid is a wooden crate with 12 pipe segments:
4 × Straight pipes — single line, two flanges 180° apart
5 × Elbow pipes (L-bends) — two flanges at 90°
2 × T-junctions — three flanges, two perpendicular to one
1 × Cross (X-piece) — four flanges
The optimal solution uses 11 of these 12. One piece (typically a straight) is left over.
The Optimal 11-Pipe Layout
Position 1 (south flange of source): Straight pipe, vertical. Connects to the source.
Position T (center of grid): T-junction. East flange → Garden line. West flange → Reservoir line. North flange → Bath line.
Positions 3, 4: Two straights running west from the T to the Reservoir sink.
Positions 5, 6: Two straights running east from the T to the Garden sink.
Positions 7, 8: Two straights running north from the T to the Bath sink.
That's 11 segments: 4 straight (south of T) + 4 straight (east + west of T) + 2 straight (north of T) — wait, recount: 2 south + 4 east-west horizontal + 2 north + 1 T = 9... actually the layout uses 8 straights and 1 T which is 9. The remaining 2 pieces are elbows at the source bend and the north-Bath corner, bringing total to 11.
The hidden rotation: The source flange faces north, but Position 1 must accept water from south. If your first piece's south flange is open and north flange is closed, water won't enter. Rotate the first straight so both vertical flanges are open (default rotation for straight pipes — but elbows default to NE which is wrong).
Wrench Item Reward
Filling all three sinks with the optimal 11-pipe layout drops the Wrench at the source spigot:
Effect: Locked utility doors (Boiler, Pump, Maintenance) open without spending a Key.
Persistent: Wrench survives death until used. Then it shatters.
Stacks: No. Only one Wrench per save file at a time.
A non-optimal solve (12 pipes, or all three sinks but with extra segments) only drops 8 Coins. The Wrench is the actual prize and requires 11 pipes or fewer.
Speedrun-Friendly 9-Pipe Layout
Speedrunners use a tighter 9-pipe layout that uses the Cross piece in place of the T:
1 straight at source (south of grid).
1 elbow turning east-to-north.
1 cross at the grid center — all four flanges active.
2 straights running east to Garden.
2 straights running west to Reservoir.
1 straight north to Bath, then 1 elbow finishing the Bath connection.
This 9-pipe variant still drops the Wrench (any layout ≤11 pipes qualifies) and saves 12 seconds of placement time per run.
Common Mistakes
Filling only two sinks. A two-sink solve produces no Wrench, no perk, half Coin payout. The puzzle requires all three.
Rotating elbows wrong. Elbow default is NE. You usually need NW, SE, or SW. Click the piece to rotate.
Placing the T-junction on the source. The source already has one flange. The T at source position 1 wastes a flange direction. Put the T at the center of your routing.
Forgetting to seal the Cross's unused flange. The Cross has four flanges. If one points into empty grid, water spills and the sink doesn't fill. Use the Cross only when all four flanges connect to neighboring segments.
Aquarius FAQ
Can I undo a placement?
Yes. Right-click any placed segment to return it to the box. No penalty.
Is there a time limit?
No timer. Take as long as you want — you can leave the room and come back same day.
What does Garden, Bath, Reservoir actually water?
Cosmetic. Garden makes the manor lawn greener (visible from Sun Room). Bath fills the upstairs tub (Maid mentions it). Reservoir is purely for the puzzle.
Does the Wrench replace the Master Key?
No. Master Key opens any door. Wrench is for utility doors only and is consumed on use. Different tools.
