Blue Prince Chapel — Stained Glass & Prayer Bell

The Chapel is the quietest puzzle in Mt. Holly. There's no timer, no penalty for entering, no overt instruction. Most players walk in, look around, ring the bell once because it's there, and leave. That single ring counts as a failed attempt. The Chapel wants a four-pull sequence matched to the four stained-glass panels — and the matching order changes daily, written on the altar plaque most players never crouch to read.

Solution overview: Read the altar plaque (rotates daily, one of six permutations). Identify the four panels: Sun (East), Moon (South), Star (West), Cross (North). Pull the bell rope in plaque order. Perfect match drops the Cross item. Three attempts before the day locks.

The Altar Plaque

The altar has a small bronze plaque below the lectern that most players never read. Crouch and inspect. It shows a four-symbol sequence in tarnished engraving. The six rotation permutations are:

Daily Plaque Rotations (Days 1-7):
  • Day 1: Sun → Moon → Star → Cross (E S W N)
  • Day 2: Moon → Cross → Sun → Star (S N E W)
  • Day 3: Star → Sun → Cross → Moon (W E N S)
  • Day 4: Cross → Star → Moon → Sun (N W S E)
  • Day 5: Sun → Star → Moon → Cross (E W S N)
  • Day 6: Moon → Sun → Cross → Star (S E N W)
  • Day 7+: Plaque is blank — see Forgotten Wing section below.

Pulling the Bell Rope

The bell rope hangs from the altar center. Each pull plays one tone and the corresponding panel glows briefly. The game tracks your sequence as a four-step buffer. After the fourth pull:

  • Exact match: All four panels glow gold. Cross item drops at the altar. Perfect-match achievement triggers.
  • Wrong sequence: Panels flash red. Buffer clears. You may try again — up to three attempts.
  • Three failed attempts: Bell rope rots away. Re-attempts require re-drafting the Chapel.
Tone memorization shortcut: Sun = bright high (E panel), Moon = low warm (S panel), Star = mid silvery (W panel), Cross = deep solemn (N panel). After two visits you can identify the panel from the tone alone.

Cross Item Reward

Successfully completing the Chapel drops the Cross, one of the most run-saving items in the game:

  • Effect: One free death-prevention per Cross carried. On lethal damage, the Cross consumes itself and restores you to 1 HP.
  • Stacks: Up to three. Each Chapel draft gives one Cross.
  • Best used: Before entering the Antechamber. The Antechamber kills you on most first attempts and the Cross prevents a hard reset.

Forgotten Wing Connection (Day 7 Trigger)

The Chapel has a hidden seventh sequence that unlocks the Forgotten Wing. On Day 7, the altar plaque appears blank — but a faint impression remains under chalk-rubbing. The hidden sequence is:

Cross → Cross → Sun → Moon (N N E S)

This requires pulling the bell rope twice in succession on the North panel, which most players don't realize is possible. After two North pulls, the door behind the altar audibly clicks. Then E and S to complete. The door opens at the start of Day 8.

Common Mistakes

  • Skipping the plaque. The plaque is the entire puzzle. Without reading it, you're guessing one of 24 permutations blindly.
  • Pulling the bell out of curiosity. Each pull is logged. Three random pulls = no attempts left for the real sequence.
  • Mixing East and West panels. Sun is East, Star is West. The Star panel's geometry looks more solar than the Sun panel, which confuses players.
  • Assuming the order is fixed. The order rotates every day. A solution from Day 2 will fail on Day 3.

Chapel FAQ

Does the plaque always show today's order? Yes, with one exception: Day 7 shows blank, hiding the Forgotten Wing sequence.
Can I carry the plaque? No. It's bolted to the altar. But you can take a photo (Camera item) and reference it after leaving the Chapel.
Does the Cross stack across runs? No. Inventory items reset each run except the Master Key.
What if I'm color-blind for stained glass? Tone identification by sound works equally well. Each panel has a distinct fundamental.
