The bedside book in the Entrance Hall changes daily, but always names a constellation. The Observatory's telescope has four dials. Match the dials to the constellation's row in the chart on the east wall.

Are the constellation answers randomized?

No. Each constellation has fixed dial values across all runs. Only the bedside book title (which constellation you are aiming at today) changes daily.

What happens if I get the constellation wrong?

The telescope locks for the rest of the day. You can still finish the run, but the Architect's Diagram cannot drop until tomorrow when the bedside book resets.

Is the Constellation puzzle required for Room 46?

Yes. The Architect's Diagram is one of the three Room 46 conditions. You must clear the Constellation puzzle at least once to reach the final door.

What is the Architect's Diagram?

A folded blueprint that drops from the telescope when you aim correctly. It encodes the layout of the back-corridor that leads to Room 46.

The Constellation puzzle in the Observatory is one of two required puzzles for Room 46. Unlike the Vault, which has a single fixed code, the Constellation rotates daily — the bedside book in the Entrance Hall picks the target constellation for that run. The dial values for each constellation, however, are fixed. Memorize the chart (or just bookmark this page) and the puzzle becomes a 30-second routine.

Solution overview: Read today's bedside book → look up its row in the chart below → set the four dials → pull the brass lever. Wrong dials = telescope locks until tomorrow.

The Architect entry is special. "The Architect" appears as the bedside book only on the day you have all three other Room 46 conditions met. It is the trigger constellation. If your book is "The Architect," tonight is the night.

How the Puzzle Resolves

The Observatory is a top-floor East Wing room — usually requires drafting once or twice before it appears. Inside, you see:

A large brass telescope mounted on a wooden frame, with four labeled dials.
A wall chart on the east wall — the same data as the table above, in-game.
A brass lever to confirm the dials.
A small slot under the lever where the Architect's Diagram drops on success.

The puzzle is testing two things: did you read today's book, and can you operate four dials. Both are easy if you know the chart. The friction is purely in the failure mode — wrong dials lock the telescope for the rest of the in-game day, blocking the Architect's Diagram and forcing you to repeat the run.

Step-by-Step

On waking up, walk to the bedside table in the Entrance Hall. Note the book title. (You can also check it later — the book stays in place all day.)
Find your target constellation in the chart above. Memorize the four dial values, or screenshot this page.
Reach the Observatory. It is most reliably drafted from a "Tower" or "Workshop" adjacent corridor. Use Keys to chain doors east.
Set all four dials before pulling the lever. Pulling with even one dial wrong instantly locks the puzzle.
Pull the brass lever. The telescope hums, the eyepiece lens rotates, and the Architect's Diagram drops.
Pick up the diagram. It auto-attaches to your inventory and counts toward the Room 46 conditions.

The Architect's Diagram & Room 46

The Architect's Diagram is one of the three required Room 46 conditions. The other two are:

The deed paper — found inside the Vault (4558).
The Master Key — opens the back-corridor door behind the Library.

You can collect them in any order, across any number of runs. Once all three are in inventory at the same time, the back-corridor door behind the Library opens on the next visit and Room 46 reveals itself. See the full Room 46 route for details.

Common Mistakes

Setting only three dials. All four must match. The filter dial is the most-skipped — players assume "clear" is the default but it isn't.
Pulling the lever twice. Pulling locks the puzzle. There is no "confirm again" — first pull is final.
Trying the puzzle without reading the bedside book. You can't guess. The book is a hard prerequisite — without it, you don't know which row to use.
Skipping the Observatory because it's out-of-the-way. The Architect's Diagram is required. There is no alternate source.
